This page briefly describes how to log on to (and off from) the telescope control computer scrt03.astro.su.se.

Logging on

Access to scrt03.astro.su.se is through the Secure Shell (SSH) protocol. ssh client programs are usually installed by default on Linux, on macOS and on recent versions of Windows.

The graphical user interfaces on scrt03.astro.su.se require the X window system. This is usually included by default in desktop/laptop installations of Linux. On macOS you may need to install XQuartz. On Windows we suggest VcXsrv although other alternatives are available. Alternatively, you may want to consider running Linux in a virtual machine, e.g., using the Windows Subsystem for Linux or a macOS hypervisor such as UTM.

Start the X server on your local machine (if it isn't already running) and open your favorite terminal emulation software, e.g. xterm.

Log on to scrt03.astro.su.se using ssh or any similiar tool using your username and password. Make sure that X11 forwarding is enabled, i.e. that programs on the remote machine are allowed to display on the X server running on your local machine. For example using ssh in a Linux environment make sure that the file $HOME/.ssh/config exists and that it contains something like:

Host scrt03.astro.su.se
  ForwardX11 yes

Logging off

Exit all running applications. For qradio one can use the File menu, and for drp one just types quit.

Now type logout and your session to scrt03.astro.su.se should close.
